Description
Overview
This outstanding Beta VX Coupé features the Roots-derived ‘Volumex’ supercharger.
I believe it is one of only 1,272 produced with this 135bhp power unit, which churned out an impressive 206 Nm of torque at a lowly 3,000 revs.
The vehicle was bought from its previous owner in Belgium in 2008..
I have owned the vehicle since and was, by any measure, almost obsessively fastidious in my commitment to keeping the car, warm, dry, as pristine as possible.
My interest in the Lancia Beta VX as a model was piqued after reading legendary Italian engine whisperer Guy Croft’s book, in which the car featured in the author’s top 10 all-time greats.
The car’s odometer reads approx. 137,500 kms.
Exterior
This is a seriously handsome car and it presents exceptionally well from every angle.
The bodywork is very straight and true, and there are no dimples, dinks or dents of any note anywhere that I can see. The car appears to be rustfree as well.
The Speedline ‘037’ alloy wheels are beyond reproach and the matching Michelin tyres look to have sufficient life left in them.
There are only a few minor, time related, scratches. Some of the black paint has rubbed away from the rear screen surround.
The bronze tinted glass is good everywhere and all other lights, lenses, badging and external fixtures and fittings look good, too.
The rubber boot lid spoiler has faded to grey a little over the years but looks tob e in good order.
Interior
The interior is every bit as impressive as its exterior counterpart and in pretty much time warp condition wherever you look.
The ‘chequered flag’ fabric upholstery and trim is untroubled by time or wear except for the usual spot on the driver’s seat.
The Recaro seats are in good condition and are as comfortable, functional and supportive as one would expect.
As there is no A/C the factory fitted manual sunroof will bring down the inside temperature to acceptable levels.
A little bit of the plastic seat back shroud at the outer shoulder of the driver’s seat has broken away.
The door cards are fine, as is the grey fabric headlining with its decidedly cute matching sun visors.
The dashboard, Nardi steering wheel, gear lever and other controls look fresh.
As far as I am aware, all buttons, switches, dials and knobs do what they are supposed to do.
Mechanical
The engine bay as a whole is clean and tidy.
The belts were changed 3 years ago and the car features new fuel lines.
The original 36 DCNF carburettor was at that time ultra-sonically cleaned and and taken apart completely and all vital parts were changed to achieve a totally rebuilt carburetor as factory new. An inspection of the Volumex unit revealed flawless vanes spinning freely.
It has 5 years ago a new silencer of the original type fitted.
Underneath the car you will find absolutely nothing to make you raise an eyebrow.
It is all solid, sound and secure, as far as I can tell.
History
The vehicle was registered on 16 March 1984 and the original Belgian registration documents are in the file. The car comes with the current Dutch papers and off course a fresh MoT certificate valid for another 2 years until summer 2027.
It comes further with its original handbook manual.
