Description

The car style based in KDF-Wagen 1944 Type 60.

Complete description/bio:
The car was found in 2015, which is the actual date of the start of the project.
After checking that the chassis of the car was not affected by any accident, that it had suffered in the past or the simple fact of the passage of time and the oxidation of the car.
We started to check that the documentation of the car was viable to rehabilitate it.
According to the VIN number, it was possible to verify that the car could be rehabilitated and that it had the original Madrid registration number.
The car originally arrived in Madrid in 1954, but it was not until a year later that the sale took place.
The car was bought by a German resident in Madrid, Eberhard Hinderer Meise, and tracing the documentation tells us that the car ended up in a scrapyard in 1975, where it was permanently deregistered.
Once all this had been checked, all the damage was assessed for restoration of the bodywork and chassis, which was found to be in good condition.
The rest of the parts, such as the 4 wings and the front and rear tailgate, were bought from scrapyards.
Before starting the project, it was decided that we wanted to base it on a recreation of a '44 war KDF, simulating the matt colour .....
And so the body work began.
The interior was in very bad condition and was sent to a specialised company, one of the best in Europe, https://artemovil.es/.
The result of the interior work is perfect, as we wanted to recreate the old interior.
In this case we did not have the engine and we decided to look for a more modern and larger cubic capacity one, in this case we looked for a 1.6cc. engine with double intake, in which we put all the new parts with many improvements:
Lightened crankshaft, oversized cylinders and pistons, valves adjusted and cut to size, all at 12v and with 40mm Double Webber carburettors.
Originally the car gave about 31bhps, which by modern standards, is very little and even dangerous for modern cars, so the engine and the adjustments made give it about 65bhps more than enough, taking into account that the total weight of the car is about 700kgs.
Gearbox with new and completely overhauled clutch.
The brakes have also been upgraded, with a complete front end assembly from a more modern vw beetle already fitted with disc brakes.
Originally fitted with drum brakes, the improvement is significant.
The whole assembly has been refurbished with new discs, brake calipers, brake hoses, brake pump and brake calipers.
Keeping the original drums at the rear, but with all the components of the assembly new, brake pads, drum pushers...
For the tyres we have chosen Firestone deluxe champion 5.00 x 15tires, which are very similar to those used in the 40's, the price of each unit is approximately 250€.
The paintwork on the car is an industrial grey and is a mix of satin and matt.
All the chrome on the car is our brand new chrome, but has been aged using techniques combined with paint to simulate rust, so the paint job looks more realistic, as if it was a real car from the 40's/50's.
The fuel tank has been fitted with a larger capacity tank and fuel gauge/gauge, this model originally did not have a fuel gauge/gauge, when the car went into reserve, you had to stop and open a fuel key (like on a motorbike).
This way it is more comfortable and better for day to day use.
The set of clocks on the dashboard are from Autometer, they are modern but with a classic look.
The indicators for lights, high beam, neutral and indicator are of Harley Davidson origin and have been integrated into the dashboard in the central grille.
The beautiful vintage retrosound radio with bluethoot and usb inside the glove box.
The sound system which is completely camouflaged is from Herz and is almost 1200w.
hi-fi sound system camouflaged herz:
-hertz hv165l x 200w
-hertz hl70 x2 100w
-hertz ht25 x2 120w
hcp4d 1160w -hertz hcp4d 1160w
The complete system has cost around 800€.
The headlight assembly is also new, the indicator lights have been integrated into the headlights.
And in the rear lights, we have had them made to measure, as originally the heart-shaped lampshades were red and we have had them made in amber, to integrate the indicators (The cost has been ich400€).
On the outside, we have chosen original logos from the 40's A.D.A.C. and inside the car the steering wheel is a batwin (600€) and the horn is an original one from the 50's (350€).
All the work has been done by coordinating about 6 companies and always looking for the best possible professionals.
Most of the parts are new and others which have no OFFParts market, have been purchased on specialized sites between individuals and collectors.

What has delayed the project a lot, since certain parts were not manufactured, the search for them has sometimes been very difficult.
The documentation of the car and all the reforms carried out, began to be processed last year, going through an Engineer in charge of the documentation project + 1 laboratory and finally an ITV/Mot.
The cost of the project has exceeded €30k.
I do not have all the invoices for the project, since many of the workshops were friends and they have been paid when the budget allowed and in several installments.
But as you can see the magnitude of the project is very large and the quality of it and its components, we have always tried to find the highest quality.
The engine will have been around €8k, the interior €5k, the purchase of the car was around €3k, paint and sheet metal around €6k, all the new parts around €3k, the specific parts for the aesthetic project + improvements + used parts €3k. the radio €350, tires €1000 for 4, adac logos €450, steering wheel 600 + horn €350, Hertz sound system €800, not counting the assembly hours of the workshop and the hours I have spent, searching for parts , itv, documentation ... etcetcetc
Now you may wonder why I am selling it for this price?
Simply because if I had to ask for the total cost of the project, to recover the money, nobody would give it to me.
Right now I am working on another project, a Volkswagen minibus which I am converting into a home and all the money goes to this project.
And honestly, I prefer to lose money on the sale of the VW before it sits there, since I don't use it...

Here you can see a video presentation that I made with a production company specializing in cars and the result is wonderful!
