Geboren in 1997, luidde de eerste serie Lotus Elise’s (1.8-16V 120) een nieuw tijdperk in voor lichtgewicht sportauto's. Het geheim zat hem in de materialen. Vervaardigd met een mix van aluminium belichaamt de Elise het iconische Lotus-ethos van "optimale prestaties door lichtheid". Aluminium werd omarmd als het kernelement voor de Elise. Door het hele design van de Elise, werden lichtgewichtcomponenten met chirurgische precisie ingezet op strategische locaties. Niet alleen in de carrosserie, maar ook in de structuur van het chassis. Een ingenieuze compositie van gelijmd geëxtrudeerd aluminium zorgde voor een ongeëvenaarde stijfheid en stevigheid, terwijl het gewicht tot een minimum werd beperkt. Een uitstekend verzorgde auto dus, zoals ook te zien is in de volledige onderhoud historie. Los van de enkele modificaties (een andere luchtfilter box, verstelbare schokbrekers – de originele schokbrekers komen bij de auto) is deze wagen origineel tot in de kleine details. Van de radio en de Lotus Elise matten tot de blauwe cabriolet kap. De Elise lijkt haast nieuw. De zilveren lak, het donkerblauwe interieur… Echt een beauty!

Except for a few modifications (a different air filter box, adjustable shock absorbers – the original ones come with the car), this vehicle remains original down to the smallest details.
