Description
The 1996 Porsche 993 Targa is the final air-cooled generation of the 911 and for many enthusiasts, considered as one of the prettiest 911 generations.
With the 993 Targa, Porsche took a completely new approach to the Targa concept. Unlike the earlier 911 Targa’s with their removable roof panel and fixed roll bar, the 993 introduced an all-glass, electrically operated sliding roof system. This marked a clear shift in design language. The traditional brushed Targa bar disappeared, replaced by a smooth, uninterrupted roofline that flowed cleanly into the rear window. The result was a more modern, elegant silhouette while still offering the open-air feeling that makes the Targa so loved by enthousiasts.
The large glass panel slides electrically beneath the rear window, flooding the cabin with light when closed and offering an open, airy driving experience when opened, without sacrificing structural rigidity or everyday comfort. It perfectly reflects Porsche’s mindset in the 1990s: respecting heritage, but engineering forward.
This example is powered by the 3.6L air-cooled flat-six producing 272 hp. It delivers exactly what you hope for in a 993: that unmistakable mechanical sound, strong linear power delivery and a driving experience like no other car brand.
The car has covered 147,000 km and has had just three owners from new. The most recent owner has enjoyed it since 2006 and has taken excellent care of it, always maintaining the car properly.
Originally delivered in Italy, it is finished in the beautiful and somewhat rare L744 LT Schwarz Metallic. In most light it appears black, but in the sun it reveals a subtle brown glow that complements the curves of the 993 perfectly. Inside, the car features black leather and retains its original Blaupunkt Porsche radio, a lovely period-correct detail.
A particularly desirable feature is option code 220: the 40% limited slip differential. This rare factory option significantly enhances traction and makes the car even more rewarding to drive, especially for those who truly enjoy the dynamic side of a 911.
